Hardwood

Do not wet-mop the floor. This could cause swelling, warping, de-lamination and joint-line separation, and void the warranty. Also, do not use any type of buffing machine. Normal foot traffic and soiling will modify the flooring's appearance over time. It is important to care for hard surface floors by vacuuming, dust mopping, or sweeping the floor on a daily or weekly basis. This will minimize abrasive materials that will lead to the damage of your floor. It will also keep your floor looking like new.

Use area rugs wherever possible. They are not only an attractive and comfortable decorative accent, but they provide a buffer from heavy foot traffic and soiling. Make sure to use a non-slip rug pad, which can be purchased at your local home goods store. Also keep in mind that you should rearrange your rugs frequently in order to disburse light to different areas of the floor. Use a good hardwood cleaner for daily cleanup of your hardwood floors. These can be purchased at many local home improvement stores. Use minimal water when cleaning floors and make sure area is completely dry after washing.

Do not use silicon based products, wax based products, oil soaps or vinegar and water to clean your floors. The use of these prohibited products may prevent the application of future coats of finish from being applied. Do your best to keep all standing water from coming in contact with hardwood floors. Moisture can cause damage to wood flooring, and for this reason, it is important that you do not over clean your floor. It is a good idea to start by dry mopping dust off of your floor and then following it with a slightly damp Swiffer or cloth mop.

It is a good idea to have a humidifier or other means of humidity control. This will help reduce the amount of expansion and contraction that takes place when the weather changes. Never wear stiletto heels on hardwood floors. If you have pets, keep their nails trimmed to avoid the scratching of your hardwood floor.
